Create text documents by combining text data, graphics, tables and charts. The interface and the number of functions are both limited to basics so that children of age 7 to 12 could learn the basics of data management. The program supports standard formats such as ODF, DOC and HTML.
OOoKids is a lighter version of the popular office suite OpenOffice. What stands out is that this version is adapted for children aged 7 to 12 years. When you install this application, you will have available the four basic applications included in the office suite: Writer, Draw, Calc, and Impress.
Each of these tools had been re-designed for easier handling. Although basically the interfaces are similar to the standard version, you will find that toolbar icons are more colorful and larger. However, although the applications seem simpler, this doesn't mean they are less powerful. For example, in Writer you can create basic documents such as letters, faxes, memos, but it also lets you create complex documents as complete biographies, including reference tables and indexes. Furthermore, you can drag and drop objects, not only from the applications of the suite, but also external objects (images, audio files, etc.).
Finally, the supported file formats are the same as in the standard version. That is, the programs can both export and import files as: doc, xml, odt, pdf, xls, html, etc. Definitely, OOo4Kids is an excellent office suite for children, and it is very powerful. In fact, these applications are so good that will allow kids to create professional-quality documents.
